The NMC Horizon Report: 2015 Library Edition examines key trends, significant challenges, and important developments in technology for their impact on academic and research libraries worldwide. This publication was produced by the NMC in collaboration with University of Applied Sciences (HTW) Chur, Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) Hannover, and ETH-Bibliothek Zurich. To create the report, an international body of experts from library management, education, technology, and other fields was convened as a panel. Over the course of three months, the 2015 NMC Horizon Project Library Expert Panel came to a consensus about the topics that would appear here. Dans l’extrait assez connu que nous présentons ici, Vannevar Bush imagine un système baptisé Memex (Memory Extender) qui prendrait en charge une information riche et variée (textes, images, sons, notes, etc.). Sa description fait irrésistiblement penser à nos ordinateurs individuels, jusqu’au concept de « bureau actif » des systèmes d’exploitation insérant un environnement graphique (MacOS puis Windows). Pas étonnant : ce texte inspirera les concepteurs de cet environnement et le créateur de la souris (Ted Nelson et Douglas Englebart). L’allusion à la consultation possible à distance préfigure la téléinformatique, devenue télématique puis aujourd’hui Internet. Un texte visionnaire donc.
Dans une autre partie du même article, moins connue, l’auteur jette les bases de ce qui prendra, des années plus tard, le nom d’hypertexte.
